Protein Field Guide is an independent Ridgenotch publication for people comparing protein products. We’re starting with ready-to-drink shakes.
What we actually do
We read primary manufacturer product pages, ingredient lists and nutrition labels. We keep the exact flavor, container size and product line attached to each fact. We use Amazon’s Creators API to identify listings, titles and pack images, and keep those commerce checks separate from label research.
Our initial research covers manufacturer information reviewed October 13, 2026. A page’s source list lets you check the underlying material yourself. Where sources conflict, we display the disagreement and withhold a definitive number when needed.
What we haven’t done
We have not bought and taste-tested these shakes, run laboratory testing, verified every seller’s inventory, or inspected the formula in a delivered bottle. We do not publish invented star ratings, lab badges, customer stories or medical endorsements.
How a recommendation earns its place
We describe a fit for a stated preference: protein quantity, calories, container size, plant versus dairy protein, or a verified lactose-free claim. We explain the tradeoff beside the recommendation. “Best” means a transparent shortlist for those criteria, not a universal winner.
The math is deliberately simple
Protein per 100 calories equals label protein divided by label calories, multiplied by 100. Our price calculator divides the price you enter by the pack count, and then calculates cost per 25g of protein. These calculations use rounded label values and are not nutritional quality scores.
Commercial independence
Shopping links are clearly distinguished from evidence sources. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. That relationship does not turn an Amazon listing into proof of nutrition, safety or performance. Read our affiliate disclosure.
Corrections and updates
Formulas and listings change. If you notice a conflicting label, contact [email protected] with the product line, flavor, container size and source. The package you receive takes precedence over an older web page.
This site provides shopping information, not personalized dietary or medical advice. For allergy-specific or medical dietary needs, use appropriate professional guidance and the exact package label.
